Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt able to share openly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last articulate my loss into words," shared Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the production, commenting that he could not remember "one day without laughter".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Values that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate essay, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.

This week, a Los Angeles court official decided to block the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive put a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the result of foul play, with a official listing citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
