Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
