Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
