Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad has just 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
